Volunteer – The Freswind School Project
Awarded scholarship under the New Colombo Plan for a project coordinated with thirty gradate students over two years. The project centred around engaging with leaders of the Ohlen Freswind community in Port Vila, Vanuatu to design and construct a new education and community centre based on endemic cultural principles and rooted in climate sensitive response after the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam. An invaluable experience, it allowed us to be engaged at each level of a project, from establishing relationships with communities and elders, learning local languages, to fundraising, design development and construction documentation. Phase one of the project culminated in a trip to Port Vila, with our team constructing foundations and slab.
